By this time tomorrow, you'll have your baby...

um...that's what my midwife said at my ob-gyn appointment on thursday. I was shocked. A routine appointment turned into a drama filled evening at the clinic and hospital. I went in for my 37th week appt. and because of my answers to a few questions that the midwife had asked me, she insisted that I do a non-stress test. The test consists of hooking you up to a monitor that keeps track of the baby's heartbeat and contractions at the same time. Thinking that it was no big deal, I agreed, and was monitored for about 45 minutes. Franny wasn't with me because he was in an urgent doctor's appointment downstairs for Mya's 103 degree fever. I was actually much more worried about Mya than myself or the baby. After getting 2 catheters inserted in Mya's urethra and one blood test, they met up with me in the screening room where I was being monitored.

The midwife came in and looked over the graph with my contractions. She immediately said, "Your baby looks GREAT!"...but then paused and said, "OOOOHHHHH...hold on a minute. I need to consult a doctor". She came back and told us that because the baby's heartbeat decelerated with a contraction, that I would have to be admitted into the hospital. We were shocked! I didn't even feel any contractions at all. She also said that if I failed the next test at the hospital, that I would be induced into labor that evening. She said that there was a high chance that by this time tomorrow, we would have our baby! OMG. She then unhooked me from the machine and told us to go directly to the hospital. No stops for food or clothes or anything...and that the hospital was expecting us. As we left, the nurses were yelling, "Good luck!".

We got to the hospital, and I was administered another test that lasted almost two hours long. Fortunately, I passed that test and they sent me home. We were relieved and thanked God that everything was okay. I still feel a little uneasy about everything, but at least the baby is okay. Oh, and my Group B Strep test was negative. No antibiotics. Yay!

Mya is also doing well. She finally broke her fever this morning and is almost back to her normal self. Although she's not drinking very well, which may be a problem. Her fever is no where near it was yesterday, but she still needs a lot of fluid in her to fight off whatever infection she has. Her pediatrician has been calling everyday to see how she's doing. For awhile, Mya was so lethargic that she stayed in the same position on the sofa for most of the day and just looked around the room. You know that's not like her at all! She's usually all over the place...squirming around, playing with her toys, trying to break the stereo and tv...LOL. She's so funny. Even when she's sick and I'm filled with anxiety, she can make me smile and laugh. I'm so thankful that I have such a beautiful daughter and even luckier that I'm going to have two! =)

35 weeks and counting

I had my 35th week appointment with my obstetrician yesterday. Actually, it was with my midwife. I like her much better...she's more personal and takes her time when we have questions. I got that Group B Strep test done. It was a weird one. I hope I don't have it! They say that it's normal bacteria so anyone can have it, but I still don't want it. I hate taking antibiotics. Ugh.

I'm measuring 35 weeks so that's good. I can't wait to meet this little one already. Time is flying fast.

I'm dropping...

I mean, the baby dropped. It's SO noticeable. When did this happen??? I was staring at my belly in the mirror this morning. The little munchkin is also putting a whole lot of pressure on me down there. And her kicks are starting to keep me up! I didn't think that it was that bad before. Hmm...

This past weekend was our baby shower. It was so nice! Thanks to AC for a great job organizing and preparing everything! You are the best =) =) And thanks to Jess for the decorations and all her hard work. Norm for the bbq and Ev for the grill. In fact, thanks to everyone for helping out and sharing in this special occasion with us. It was such a windy day, but overall really fun.
